Among the most effective placements in Jyotish. Mars in the house of enemies, debt and disease simply wins: excellent for litigation, competition, surgery, the armed forces, police work and anything adversarial. The health caution is real but specific — injury and inflammation from overexertion rather than from constitutional weakness.
Classical note: Dusthana and upachaya both — a malefic here destroys the difficulty rather than suffering it.
The 6th house is the obstacles you overcome by labour, governing enemies, debts, disease, service, daily work. Mars (Mangal) is a malefic of heat and force and signifies courage, siblings, land, energy, conflict; its drive is to act, to compete, and to defend what is his.
The 6th is a dusthana (difficult house), where planets deliver results through struggle, delay, or transformation. Interestingly, a malefic like Mars often performs *better* in a dusthana than a benefic would — classical astrology holds that malefics in the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th (the upachaya houses) and in dusthanas can destroy the difficulty rather than suffer it.
Three things modify this placement more than anything else: the sign Mars occupies (see Mars through the signs), the aspects it receives — Jupiter's aspect can rescue a difficult placement and Saturn's can sober an easy one — and the strength of the 6th house lord.
