Shani Sade Sati CalculatorSade Sati is the roughly seven-and-a-half year period when transiting Saturn (Shani) passes through the sign before your Moon sign, over your Moon sign, and the sign after — three phases of about two and a half years each. Because it is defined by Saturn’s transit, everyone experiences it periodically, regardless of their birth chart.
It is a transit, not a birth-chart flaw — which is why it comes and goes. Saturn takes about 29.5 years to circle the zodiac, so Sade Sati recurs roughly every 27–30 years, and most people live through two or three.
Saturn is the planet of discipline, responsibility, and hard lessons, so Sade Sati is traditionally a period of testing — increased responsibility, slower progress, and pressure that forces maturity. Its reputation is harsher than its reality: for many it is a demanding but genuinely productive, character-building phase, and for those with a well-placed Saturn it can be a time of hard-won success.
Traditional support includes worship of Shani and Hanuman, reciting the Shani Chalisa or Hanuman Chalisa on Saturdays, lighting a mustard-oil lamp on Saturday evenings, charity of black items (sesame, iron, black cloth) to those in need, honest hard work (which Saturn rewards), and service to the elderly and laborers. Saturn responds to integrity more than to ritual.
The experience is far milder when Saturn is well-placed in the birth chart — in its own signs (Capricorn, Aquarius), exalted in Libra, or as a yogakaraka for certain ascendants. The phase over the Moon sign is usually felt most; the first and last phases are gentler.
The myth is that Sade Sati is uniformly disastrous. In truth it is a normal, recurring transit that a large fraction of the population is experiencing at any moment, and many people achieve major milestones during it. The pressure is real; the doom is not.
