Step three — reading for a question

Three factors, every time

Whatever is being asked, the method is the same. Find the house that governs it, the lord of that house, and the natural karaka.

Marriage: the 7th house, the 7th lord, and Venus. Career: the 10th house, the 10th lord, and the Sun with Mercury. Children: the 5th, its lord, Jupiter. Wealth: the 2nd and 11th, their lords, Jupiter. Mother: the 4th, its lord, the Moon. Education: the 4th and 5th, their lords, Mercury and Jupiter.

The reason for three is redundancy. Any one can be misleading; three independent factors pointing the same way is evidence.

When they agree

If the house is occupied by benefics, its lord is well placed and dignified, and the karaka is strong, you can say something with some confidence — always framed as tendency rather than certainty.

This is rarer than beginners expect. Most areas of most lives are mixed, and a chart that shows unambiguous agreement on some question is the exception.

When they disagree — which is usual

A strong 7th lord and an afflicted Venus. An occupied 10th house but a debilitated 10th lord. This is the normal case, and how you handle it is most of what distinguishes a competent reader.

The honest answer is that the area is mixed, and you can often say something more specific about the shape of the mixture. A strong house with a weak lord frequently reads as an area that looks good from outside but is harder to hold. A weak house with a strong lord often reads as something that arrives despite unpromising beginnings.

What you must not do is pick the factor that supports the story you already want to tell. That is the single most common failure in paid readings, and it is invisible to the client.
