The failure this prevents

Someone who has finished Levels 1 to 4 knows a great deal and can still produce nonsense. The usual way is to look up placements one at a time — Saturn in the 7th means this, Mars in the 5th means that — and stack the results.

That produces a list of unrelated and frequently contradictory statements, which is exactly what most online chart interpretation reads like. The problem is not knowledge. It is that no step was allowed to qualify any other.

The six steps

One: the Lagna and its lord. This establishes the overall condition of the chart and the frame everything else is read against.

Two: overall strength. Which houses are occupied, where the weight of the chart sits, whether the important planets are in kendras and trikonas or in dushthanas.

Three: the question. Identify the house, its lord, and the relevant karaka for whatever is actually being asked.

Four: condition. Assess those three factors properly — dignity, combustion, aspects, conjunctions, functional status.

Five: timing. Which dasha is running, and when do the relevant planets have their periods. Level 6 covers this properly; for now, note that a reading without timing is incomplete.

Six: synthesis. Only now do you say anything, and only where several independent factors agree.

Why sequence does the work

Each step constrains the next. A strong Lagna lord in step one changes how you read a difficult placement in step four — the chart has resilience. A chart weighted toward upachaya houses in step two means step six should describe a trajectory rather than a fixed state.

Skip to step four and you are reading a placement in isolation, which is where the contradictory list comes from. The order is not ceremony; it is what makes the parts cohere.
